Students Assaulted, Locked Out in Bengaluru PG Violence
Building Owner and Goons Attack Students Over Rent Dispute, Belongings Locked Inside
Bengaluru witnessed a shocking incident of violence and intimidation at a paying guest (PG) accommodation, leaving students traumatised and stranded. According to a series of posts shared on X (formerly Twitter), the ordeal began on the night of December 10, when two strangers entered a PG room, claiming to be the building owner and demanding rent payments. The students refused, asserting that the rent had already been paid a week earlier to the actual PG owner.
Upon their refusal, the intruders turned violent, verbally abusing the students and physically assaulting one of them by dragging him out and throwing his belongings onto the road. One student sustained a severe injury to his left hand after being struck with a wooden object.
The actual PG owner’s attempts to intervene were met with hostility, as the alleged building owner—a woman—arrived, locked the premises from the outside, and physically assaulted the PG owner while hurling verbal abuse at the students. The situation escalated as the students’ personal belongings, electronic devices, and even crucial documents like hall tickets were locked inside, preventing them from attending exams or interviews.
Despite filing complaints with the local police, the students have not seen any resolution. Police officials visited the location multiple times but failed to diffuse the situation or provide access to the students’ belongings.
The violence took a terrifying turn on December 12, when the building owner and her associates reportedly brought weapons and hired goons to a nearby PG where the students had sought refuge. In a late-night attack at 3 AM, the group caused chaos, throwing stones, shouting threats, and forcibly breaking the main door to gain entry. The students, locked inside their rooms, escaped physical harm but were left deeply traumatised by the incident.
The students, stranded without access to their belongings and fearing for their safety, have taken to social media to appeal for urgent intervention from the police and the public. The horrifying events have sparked outrage, with netizens demanding strict action against the perpetrators. However, the students remain in limbo as their lives and academic futures hang in the balance.
