Cabinet Minister Gadkari, writes to the Health Minister demanding uniform bond policy for Doctors

Minister Gadkari has written to the Health Minister, Shri Mansukh Mandviya, stating the need of ‘stringent and bond’ policy for the doctors in order to improve healthcare facilities in the country. He has also reminded in his letter that the uniform bond policy was earlier prepared by MCI in July, 2020 and is pending with the Healthcare ministry since then.

Formerly, there were numerous petitions filed by the doctors regarding this  uniform policy; Apex Court in 2019 had suggested suitable steps to be taken by Union India and Medical Institute of India regarding the uniform policy for doctors trained in government institutions.

Later in 2020, MCI in front of Madras High court had mentioned about the Uniform bond policy for MBBS, PG Medical, and SS courses across the country. Highlighting the issue, Gadkari has also mentioned in the letter about his conversation with Dr. Vitthal Sarjerao Salve stating the effective utilization of Medical Doctors under Uniform Bond Policy. There has also been an issue mentioned that Medical students do not take the bond which states the mandatory service in government recognized institutes after their degree completion to be very effective. Also, there is no action taken against these doctors.

The letter further mentioned the fact that medical students in government deemed institutes receive knowledge and degrees with financial help from the public exchequer and yet display reluctance in serving people.

He has requested the union minister to examine the matter and take actions as per the rules. He also stressed on the need for the uniform policy to ensure sufficient numbers of doctors join the main healthcare facilities run, recognized, and supported by the government to serve the public.
